CH4
(Methane)
(Methane)
Methane (CH4) is a potent greenhouse gas that is about 28 times more effective at trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide (CO2) over a 100-year time horizon. The main sources of methane emissions are agriculture (including livestock and rice cultivation), landfills, and the extraction and transportation of fossil fuels (such as natural gas and oil). Methane emissions contribute significantly to climate change and it is important to reduce them in order to mitigate the negative impacts of global warming. This can be achieved through a variety of measures, including reducing methane emissions from agriculture and waste, improving the efficiency of natural gas systems, and transitioning to renewable energy sources.
